Why diagnosing a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may be more difficult in times of a pandemic? Can the effects of the pandemic be confused with symptoms of Autism when they possibly are not? What should parents do?

Pandemic and the Diagnosis of Children with Autism

Some of the early signs to diagnose a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) appear when suspicions arise as young children act differently from their peers or become isolated. This can be more difficult to detect in these times of pandemic where basically, and more than ever, we find ourselves isolated, and away from friends and family. On the other hand, the effects of isolation may seem like signs of autism when they possibly are not.

In this interesting article from the New York Times, we find the experience and opinion of specialists on the subject. Please following the link:

Symptoms of Autism to look for

After visiting NY Times link, we recommend our own article: What are the symptoms of autism? It contains a much broader list of signs that parents can use as a guide in the early observation and detection of symptoms of Autism. We hope this article is helpful.
